Knoedler Publishing's August, 1998, release is LeRoy Neiman's limited edition
serigraph entitled "Portrait of the Tiger".
The artist says: "Although it was not intended to be, this print could serve
as a companion to the recently released "Portrait of the Leopard" in my recurring
devotion to the free-ranging cat.
"The work is positively a portrait. Animals have just as much personality
as human beings, and in doing head studies of animals it is just as important
to catch the expression and likeness of an individual animal as that of a human
being.
"The head of the tiger in this print is life-size. That's something to think
about. Tigers are the largest cats. But they're as fast and agile as a housecat.
They are awesome, beautiful creatures."
The tiger in the featured serigraph is calm, commanding and assured. The luxurious
yellow-orange coat is patterned with black stripes and its cheeks adorned by
white whiskers. Crouching amid green jungle flora, the tiger closely studies
the viewer with mesmerizing, emerald eyes.
"Portrait of the Tiger" is a noble addition to Neiman's zoological portrait
gallery and will delight Neiman collectors everywhere.
